Los Angeles Lakers player-turned-head coach Luke Walton is doubling down on Manhattan Beach, CA, buying a second home there, celebrity gossip site Yolanda’s Little Black Book reports. Walton, 38, reportedly bought the eight-bedroom, eight-bath house last year from John Macaluso, the former head of the popular comic book convention organizer Wizard World. He negotiated a superhero-sized deal, shaving $300,000 off Macaluso’s asking price—reportedly buying the house for $7.2 million. Originally built in 2003, this French Riviera-style, 10,000-square-foot home is chock-full of family-friendly amenities. Through a small courtyard with a fountain, the home’s double doors open to reveal a double princess staircase, wrought-iron railings, and a crystal chandelier. To one side of the staircase, there’s an office with built-in bookcases on two walls and coffered ceilings. To the other, there’s a game room with a fireplace, wet bar, and enough space for a pool table. The game room flows into the formal dining room, which appears to have a mural painted on at least one of its walls. The family room has a fireplace, and arched French doors leading to the backyard and patio. The kitchen has a large center island with room for four, a gas range and stone backsplash, and what appears to be a pair of industrial-sized refrigerators. Just off the kitchen, there’s an octagonal breakfast nook with a view of the backyard. Upstairs, the master bedroom has a fireplace, balcony, and workout room. In the basement, there’s a movie theater that comfortably seats eight, a 300-bottle wine room, another office, and a spare bedroom for a maid or au pair. Elsewhere, there’s an enclosed outdoor kitchen with gas grill, a 46-foot-long saline pool, outdoor bar, pizza oven, fire pit, pergola, and four-car garage—all packed into a smartly laid-out 15,000-square-foot lot. Walton grew up in Southern California and was the Lakers’ second-round draft pick in 2003. He played with the Lakers until 2012, alongside Shaquille O’Neal, Kobe Bryant, Lamar Odom, Metta World Peace, and Pau Gasol. The Lakers won back-to-back NBA Championships in 2009 and 2010, and Walton and his dad, Bill Walton, became the NBA’s first father-son pair to win multiple championship rings. Walton briefly joined the Cleveland Cavaliers before going into coaching. He was named the Lakers’ head coach in 2016.
